THE EASTER EGG HUNT
For the fourth consecutive year, we are preparing the biggest and most successful Easter Egg Hunt in our country for the estate’s young and old friends at “Pyrgos Vasilissis”. More than 1,500 colorful eggs will be hidden with great care in Queen Amalia’s Garden—along the alleys, in the vineyard and the olive grove, under shrubs, on trees, in the easiest and most inventive spots. Under the watchful eye of the Alexandrine parrots—who will be the referees of the day and will observe our moves from above—we will all share a truly unique experience! The Easter Egg Hunt is a tradition that begins in Germany, in Luther’s era. The egg is said to symbolize Christ’s tomb and the joy of the women when they realized the tomb was empty after the Resurrection. It is also a hymn to Spring and to Life that is born from the egg. Each group/family will receive its basket and, following our instructions, we will set off across the estate with the goal for each group to collect as many eggs as possible! At the end of the event, in front of the Tower, we will award the winners, while at the beginning we will talk about the Easter customs related to this tradition and the meaning of the celebration.

Inviting close friends to a breakfast or brunch shows great intimacy with them and often happens after hosting at country houses or at home. In the United Kingdom, France and elsewhere, aristocrats would very often move to their country residences and invite friends to stay with them—to go horseback riding, to hunt, to show their hospitality, to thank them, to arrange marriages, to display their wealth, etc. The breakfast table started the day and it ended with formal dinners. The breakfast table has its own codes. It is, rightly, considered the most relaxed meal of the day, and the table setting is accordingly—no excessive formality, no ultra-expensive porcelain and serving ware, no strict savoir vivre, especially when it is served in the garden.
